Grade 3
Third grade is a year of doing. There is something wonderful that happens when children begin to realize just how much they are capable of. They don't simply want to hear how something works—they want to measure it, build it, grow it, make it, test it, and try it for themselves.
At Dreamers, we embrace that growing sense of capability. Academic lessons come alive through stories, hands-on experiences, meaningful projects, and plenty of opportunities to put new skills to work. Mathematics might move from the page into measuring and problem-solving. A lesson about how people live and work might lead to building, gardening, cooking, creating, or discovering how something is made.
Our days are full of opportunities to create. Students paint with watercolor, draw, work with their hands, make beautiful Main Lesson Books, explore music and movement, and discover that art can be part of learning—not something saved for the end of the day.
And third graders need to move! Recess, outdoor time, physical education, games, yoga, and other movement experiences give children opportunities to challenge their bodies, work together, laugh, and return to their lessons ready to learn.
Along the way, students are strengthening the academic skills that will carry them forward. Reading becomes richer, writing becomes more expressive, mathematical thinking grows more complex, and children begin taking greater ownership of their work. We encourage them to persevere, solve problems, ask for help when they need it, and experience the enormous satisfaction of being able to say, “I did that.”
Our intentionally small classes allow teachers to know each child as an individual—giving them room to grow at their own pace while gently encouraging greater confidence, responsibility, and independence.
Third grade at Dreamers is about discovering that learning isn't only something that happens to you. It's something you can do with your own hands, your own ideas, and your own growing abilities.
