Grade 1
First grade is where a lifelong love of learning begins. It is a year of stories and songs, letters and numbers, paintbrushes and pencils, movement and imagination—and the wonderful discovery that there is so much in the world to learn.
At Dreamers, we believe a child's first steps into academics should be filled with warmth, beauty, curiosity, and joy. Reading, writing, and mathematics are introduced through rich stories, rhythm, movement, art, hands-on experiences, and meaningful practice, allowing children to build strong foundations while remaining deeply engaged in the experience of learning.
Our days have a gentle, predictable rhythm that helps children feel comfortable and ready to learn. A lesson might begin with a story, grow into drawing or writing, continue through movement or song, and find its way onto the pages of a beautiful Main Lesson Book. Mathematics comes alive through counting, patterns, movement, games, and exploration as children begin building a joyful relationship with numbers.
There is plenty of time for creativity. Children paint with watercolor, draw, sing, create, work with their hands, listen to wonderful stories, and discover the pride that comes from making something beautiful themselves.
And because six- and seven-year-olds are meant to move, our days make room for it. Children head outdoors for recess, games, nature, and time with friends. They run, laugh, explore, practice working together, and return to the classroom refreshed and ready for what comes next.
Within our intentionally small classes, each child has the opportunity to be truly known. Teachers can meet children where they are, celebrate their growth, gently support their challenges, and help them develop confidence, independence, kindness, and a sense of belonging.
We want our first graders to leave this year with strong academic foundations—but also with something just as precious: the belief that learning is exciting, that they are capable, and that school can be a place they love to be.
Stories to hear. Numbers to discover. Pictures to paint. Friends to make. A whole world waiting to be explored.
