Students are invited to join us for a Waldorf-inspired schedule that includes: Main Lesson, Lunch, Yoga & Mindfulness, and Process Art.

Main Lesson Teacher: Candi Clark

Main Lesson

First grade introduces the foundations of reading, writing, and mathematics through stories, artistic work, and hands-on activities. Students learn letters and sounds through storytelling, drawing, and writing. As the year progresses, children begin reading simple words and sentences while building confidence in their writing. In mathematics, students explore numbers through games, movement, and practical activities while learning addition, subtraction, and number patterns.

First Grade Blocks

• Fairy Tales – stories that introduce letters and sounds

• Form Drawing – developing fine motor skills and visual awareness

• Numbers & Patterns – understanding number relationships

• Nature Stories – connecting learning to the natural world

These blocks help children build strong academic foundations while nurturing imagination and creativity.

Additional activities may include:

  • Circle Time- This is a beautiful time of connection, as we bridge home life and school life.

  • Artistic Projects- There will be a focus on artistic activities that encourage the child’s natural sense of beauty and color.

  • Outdoor and Play Times- These activities will be incorporated into the day so that students have a natural balance of active play time and time to quietly focus.

  • Sensory Garden- Spending time in our outdoor sensory garden will allow students to use and nourish all of their senses while connecting to nature.

Yoga & Mindfulness

This class begins with an alignment-based yoga practice to build strength, mobility, and body awareness. We then take those physical skills to our mental and emotional lives. We learn skills to help us regulate emotions, navigate fear, increase self-compassion and self-confidence, and strengthen our relationships.

Process Art

In this class we will investigate and experiment with different mediums through process art. Process art focuses on the creative process rather than the end result. Students will familiarize themselves with different techniques and how the materials respond. By doing so, they are able to gain confidence in their creative expression.
