Students are invited to join us on Fridays from 10:00am to 3:00pm for a Waldorf-inspired schedule that includes: Astrobiology, Main Lesson, Lunch, Yoga/Mindfulness, and Main Lesson (continued).

Main Lesson Teacher: Kristy Hall / Biology Main Lesson: Cathy Madison

Astrobiology

In this course, the student will be educated on the way life could evolve, and change based on planetary data such as gravity, atmospheric composition, distance from home star, and other factors that would affect the biological processes. Mr. G has first-hand experience working in this field of study, including an involvement in NASA’s astrobiology tools onboard the Europa Clipper mission. There will be a final comprehensive group project where the student will be asked to create a biological form of life based on an assigned planet or moon with specific qualities. This is a form of astrobiology that exists called exobiology or xenobiology and is used to see how life could evolve on other worlds. This data is taken and tested on Earth in controlled lab environments in some of the most hostile places on the planet such as the arctic and near volcanoes.

Main Lesson

The main lesson is the academic cornerstone of each day and is planned around a block system so that students may dive deep into a subject. This unique period gives students time for in-depth exploration of mathematics, sciences, language arts, and social studies, while utilizing main lesson books in which students record their academic and artistic reflections of learning. The teacher may use any or all of the lively arts (storytelling, drawing, painting, modeling, drama, etc.) to investigate the material and engage the students. Subjects that may be infused into your student’s main lesson time include:

YOGA/MINDFULNESS
