Grades 5–6
This is an age made for discovery. Grades 5 and 6 are a wonderful bridge between childhood and the growing independence ahead. Students are ready to tackle bigger ideas, take on greater responsibility, and discover what they are capable of—while still learning best when they can move, create, explore, and experience the world for themselves.
At Dreamers, learning is active. A history lesson might inspire a hands-on project, science may lead to an experiment or investigation, and mathematics becomes an opportunity to notice patterns and solve increasingly complex problems. Literature, storytelling, discussion, and writing help students strengthen their voices and learn to communicate their ideas with confidence.
Creativity is woven throughout the week. Students paint with watercolor, draw, work with their hands in handwork, step into stories through theater, and explore new ideas through artistic and practical projects. Yoga, physical education, folk games, outdoor time, and recess give students plenty of opportunities to move, reset, laugh, and connect with one another.
There is something especially wonderful about this age: students are capable of doing increasingly sophisticated work, but they are still wonderfully eager to get involved. They want to experiment. They want to make things. They want to ask why. And they still need time to move, laugh, connect, and simply enjoy being kids.
Our small classes allow teachers to build on that enthusiasm while helping students develop stronger academic skills, greater independence, responsibility, perseverance, and confidence in their own abilities.
We want students to leave Dreamers knowing more—but also wanting to know more. To feel confident tackling something difficult, comfortable asking questions, excited to create, and proud of what they can accomplish. These are years for building strong academic foundations, growing independence, forming meaningful friendships, and discovering that learning can still be something they genuinely look forward to.
Big ideas. Busy hands. Growing minds. And plenty of room to still be a kid.
